Park City Winter Elopement with Family in February

Park City Winter Elopement with Family in February

Bride and groom in wedding attire embrace on snowy landscape at sunset, with mountains in the background. Warm, romantic mood.

H and M's Park City winter elopement took place on February 21st, right in the heart of ski season. Snowbanks stacked high and mountains fully covered.

They invited nine of their closest family members and built the day around being outside.

From the beginning, we planned this Park City winter elopement around light and timing. In February, sunset is just after 6 PM. That means you design the day intentionally. Winter doesn’t give you unlimited daylight. It gives you a window.

So we worked backwards from sunset and built everything around it.

Planning a Park City Winter Elopement in February?

If you’re considering a winter elopement in Park City, February is real winter.

Highs usually sit in the 30s. Snow is consistent. Ski season is in full swing.

Instead of trying to avoid that, we leaned into it.

We scouted a ceremony location based on:

  • Where the sun would hit in late afternoon

  • Accessibility for family in winter conditions

  • Clean mountain lines in the background

  • Privacy

That’s always the starting point for a Park City winter elopement. Light first. Landscape second. Logistics third.

Getting Ready for a Winter Elopement in Park City

They rented an Airbnb in Park City for getting ready.

This is one of our favorite winter strategies. A private Airbnb gives you:

  • Soft window light

  • Space for family

  • A warm indoor backup

  • Clean, uncluttered backgrounds

H got ready with her mom and sisters. M got ready separately. We arrived once final touches were almost done so we could capture real moments instead of staged ones.

They stepped outside for their first look before we headed to the ceremony location. Snow underfoot. Quiet neighborhood. Mountains in the distance.

Choosing the Right Ceremony Location for a Park City Winter Elopement

For this Park City winter elopement, they wanted mountains and water. Open space. Nothing crowded.

We scouted a scenic reservoir just outside Park City that would give them wide winter views while staying easy for family to access. Minimal walking. Clear backdrop. Strong horizon line.

When we arrived, the lake was frozen and the peaks were fully snow covered.

No arch. No décor. Just winter and mountains. More than enough. Less is more.

They exchanged vows with their family gathered close, then we moved into portraits while the light was still working in our favor.

Winter light sits lower in the sky, which actually helps. It’s softer. More directional. The snow reflects light back into the frame in a way summer doesn’t.

That’s one of the underrated advantages of a winter elopement in Park City.

Park City Winter Elopement Timeline: What 8 Hours Looks Like

Park City Winter Elopement Timeline | 1 PM – 9 PM

This is how H and M's February elopement in Park City unfolded.

1:00 PM – Getting Ready at the Airbnb

We arrived at their Park City Airbnb as everyone was settling in.

Detail photos. H getting ready with her mom and sisters. M getting ready separately. Window light pouring in.

2:30 PM – First Look

They stepped outside for their first look near the property.

Snow underfoot. Mountains in the distance. A few quiet minutes before heading out.

We stayed there for portraits before leaving.

3:30 PM – Drive to Ceremony Location

A calm drive toward their ceremony spot just outside Park City.

4:00 PM – Ceremony

Lakeside vows with nine family members gathered close.

Mountains fully snow covered. The lake frozen. Late afternoon winter light.

Champagne toast after.

4:30 PM – Family Portraits

Full group. Parents. Siblings. A few candid moments in between.

5:00 PM – Couple Portraits

We stayed by the shoreline as the sun dropped lower.

Walking. Laughing. Using the last of the light across the mountains.

5:55 PM – Sunset

A few quiet frames as the sun dipped behind the peaks.

6:45 PM – Main Street Park City

Blue hour in town.

Snowbanks along the sidewalks. Storefront lights glowing. Deer Valley lit up above Main Street.

7:00 PM – 8:30 PM – Night Portraits

Downtown portraits to close the day.

Mountain landscapes earlier. Alpine town energy at night.

9:00 PM – Coverage Ends

Eight hours.

 Two completely different backdrops.

 Winter in its full season.

Eight hours works well for a Park City winter elopement because you’re not compressing everything into one short window before sunset. You have room to breathe. Time for family. Time for portraits. Time for a second location.

Ending a Park City Winter Elopement on Main Street

Main Street in February feels different.

Snow along the sidewalks. Warm storefront lights. That classic mountain town energy.

After spending the afternoon in wide open landscapes, finishing the night downtown gave their gallery contrast.

Open mountain views earlier in the day. Cozy alpine town atmosphere to close it out.

That variety is one of the reasons Park City works so well for winter elopements.

Can You Add Skiing to a Park City Winter Elopement?

Yes. And we often plan for it.

Because this was a February Park City winter elopement, we left space in their timeline in case they wanted to add a short ski session.
