What does it really look like to elope in the San Juans? It’s bumpy, dusty, insanely beautiful and unforgettable.

This day was everything we love about off-road elopements in Colorado: remote locations, a couple who was totally down for the ride, and jaw-dropping views around every bend.
We explored some of the most iconic high-elevation passes in the San Juan Mountains; Imogene Pass, Hurricane Pass, and more, all just outside of Silverton.
Each spot had its own kind of magic: sweeping ridgelines, deep turquoise alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, and the signature San Juan switchbacks cutting through the red and orange rock.
The scenery out here is rugged, the kind that instantly makes you feel small in the best way.
Unlike more popular areas like Rocky Mountain National Park, this part of Colorado feels wild and raw. The San Juans are known for their vibrant geology, rich with minerals, you'll see mountains streaked with deep reds, greens, and gold. You can actually drive into the heart of these peaks with a high-clearance 4x4 and find total solitude, which is rare these days. It’s one of the few places where you can get those dramatic views and real privacy for your elopement.
We started the day in Ouray, a little mountain town that feels like it belongs in a postcard, with hot springs, charming shops, and dramatic cliffs in every direction.
From there, we jumped into a Jeep with a local guide from San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours who took us on a full-day mountain adventure through the San Juans.
No cell service, no distractions just wide open terrain, alpine air, and two people starting their marriage in the most unforgettable way.
